For the “unfortunate” few of us living in the United States who watched the BET Awards 2013 live over the weekend, we missed out on the part where Ice Prince was called on stage to collect his Best International Act (Africa) award. We’re not totally outta luck though; someone caught the big moment on tape. Here it is below.
No matter how you look at it, it’s clear we’re making progress yearly.

As Ice Prince pointed out in this Beat FM interview with Fade straight from Hollywood, for the first two years, this particular award was shared between two people (2face/D’Banj in 2011, Wizkid/Sarkodie in 2012), and most people saw it as a bit of an insult, but in 2013, they finally recognized just ONE winner – Ice Prince.

Also, for the first two years, the award was given to the winner(s) backstage, but this year,Ice Prince was called up to collect it in front of the crowd. At this rate, a Nigerian/African act will perform on stage just like the Jamaicans did and we’ll be getting even more coverage in the near future.

Kudos to BET. We’re growing.
